Criteria for South African Apprentice

Last night I phoned the SABC3 competition line to enter myself into South Africa's version of the Apprentice. The requirements as stated on this line is:

• You must be between the ages of 22 and 35.
• You must be available full-time between 8 April and 27 May 2005 as well as between 15 and 22 September 2005.
• You must be able to go to auditions in one of these places: Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth or Johannesburg.
• They need a day time contact number for you.
• No qualifications necessary.

And finally you have 40 seconds to answer the following question:
Why would you make the ideal apprentice?

South African version of the Apprentice

It was on the front page of the Sunday Times this weekend: South Africa is getting its own Apprentice show with Tokyo Sexwale our Trump.

Though I dislike us (South Africans) just copying what the rest of the world does - especially regarding reality TV - I think the SABC has done a great job of choosing Tokyo Sexwale as the show's Trump card. I feel if they had chosen someone like Sol Kerzner (one of the other contenders) for the position it might have resulted in a very similar show. Now we have the opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs to get a look at the inside of the new South Africa - even a peek into Black Economic Empowerment (BEE).

Yes, Tokyo Sexwale, might just be the right person to give the South African Apprentice a distinct African flavour. And this might just be the opportunity for a young up-and-coming entrepreneur to distinguish him/herself.
